How a spring channel nut works

Push the nut into the slot of the channel and turn it a quarter so it sits across the slot. The spring presses it up against the channel's lips, so it stays wherever you slide it. You can then place the clamp or bracket over it and start the bolt with one hand.

When the bolt is tightened, the grooves on top of the nut bite into the lips of the channel and lock the joint, so it can't slide along the channel under load.

Where spring nuts are used

Structures built from strut channel use them wherever a part bolts onto the channel: mid and end clamps, degree brackets, jointers and cross members. Our GI mid clamp kit already includes one. Buy them loose for spares, or for fixing other parts to the channel.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a spring nut and a plain channel nut?

Both lock into the lips of the strut channel. The spring nut adds a spring underneath, which holds the nut in place while you position the part and start the bolt. A plain channel nut slides or drops until the bolt is in.

Why do spring nuts have grooves?

The grooves on top bite into the inturned lips of the channel when the bolt is tightened, so the joint stays put under load instead of sliding along the channel.

What bolt size fits your spring nuts?

M8. Our spring nuts have an M8 thread, so they take M8 bolts.

Do your clamp kits include spring nuts?
