Where a GI mid clamp is used

Mid clamps sit in the gap between two panels in the same row, one on each rail or purlin, while end clamps hold the two ends of the row. The kit's spring nut goes into the strut channel below and stays where you put it while you line up the next panel, which saves time on the roof.

Galvanized (GI) clamps are the standard choice for most inland rooftop and ground-mount jobs. This kit is 3 mm GI with a 50 µm zinc coat, in sizes for 30 and 35 mm panel frames.

Choosing and fitting the kit

Check the frame height on the panel datasheet and order the matching size. Near the sea, in very humid areas or next to industrial fumes, step up to our HDG mid clamp with its 80 µm hot-dip coat. For aluminium rails or a lighter build, see the aluminium mid clamp.

On site, place the clamps inside the clamping zones given in the panel manual, keep the gap between panels even, and tighten every bolt to the same torque. Over-tightening can bend a frame; under-tightening lets panels shift in strong wind.

What comes in the GI mid clamp kit?

Each set has the galvanized mid clamp, a spring nut that sits inside the strut channel and an Allen (hex socket) bolt, packed together so nothing has to be matched on site.

Why does the kit use a spring nut?

The spring pushes the nut up against the lips of the strut channel, so it stays where you place it while you position the panel and start the bolt. A plain nut would slide along the channel or drop out of reach.

Should I use GI or HDG mid clamps?

GI suits most inland sites. HDG carries a much thicker zinc coat (80 µm on our HDG mid clamp, against 50 µm on this kit), so choose it for coastal, humid or industrial locations, where zinc wears away faster.
