Where end clamps go

Every row of panels starts and finishes with end clamps: one on each rail or purlin at both ends, holding the frame from its outside edge. Mid clamps do the work in between. Because an end clamp grips a single frame, its height has to match that frame exactly. A clamp that is too tall won't grip, and one that is too short won't fit over the frame.

Choosing a GI end clamp

Take the frame height from the panel datasheet and order the 30 or 35 mm size to match. This kit is 3 mm GI sheet with a 50 µm zinc coat, made for 41×41 strut channel, and it pairs with our GI mid clamp kit, which has the same coating.

Fit the clamp fully on the purlin rather than at its very end, keep it within the panel maker's clamping zone, and tighten it to the same torque as the mid clamps in the row.

How many end clamps does a row of solar panels need?

Four when the panels sit on two rails or purlins: two at each end of the row. The number stays the same however long the row is; only the mid clamps increase with each extra panel.

Can a 35 mm end clamp be used on a 30 mm frame?

No. An end clamp holds one frame from the outside, so its height must match the frame. Check the frame height on the panel datasheet and order that size.

What is the difference between a mid clamp and an end clamp?

A mid clamp sits between two panels and holds both frames with one bolt. An end clamp holds only the outer edge of the last panel in a row. Most installations need both, which is why we supply matching GI mid and end clamp kits.
