Where solar AC wire is used

On the AC side of a grid-tied system, the wire runs from the inverter's output to the ACDB, and from the ACDB to the main board or meter. Multi-strand copper is flexible, so it is easy to route through conduit and to terminate in the inverter and the ACDB. We supply aluminium AC wire as well, also in 100 m bundles; send the size you need on WhatsApp.

Choosing the size

The size depends on the inverter's output current, the length of the run and the supply, single-phase or three-phase. A longer run needs a bigger size to keep the voltage drop low, so follow the inverter manual or the system design, and step up from 2.5 to 4 or 6 sq mm as the current and distance grow.

Crimp lugs or ferrules on the ends, and keep the wire in conduit or trunking wherever it runs outdoors.

Copper or aluminium AC wire: which should I use?

Copper carries more current for its size and is easier to terminate. Aluminium is lighter and costs less, but it needs a larger size for the same current, and lugs made for aluminium at the terminals. We supply both.

What is the difference between solar AC and DC wire?

DC wire runs on the panel side and has to stand years of sun and rooftop heat. AC wire runs from the inverter to the ACDB and the building's board, usually indoors or in conduit. Don't use ordinary AC wire for the DC strings.
