Solar DCDB Box

Also called: DCDB Box, DC distribution box, DCDB panel

A solar DCDB box (DC distribution box) sits between the solar panel strings and the inverter, with fuses and surge protection on the DC side. Solenix Solutions supplies pre-wired DCDB boxes in ratings from 32 A to 300 A from Jalandhar, Punjab, to installers across India.

What a DCDB does

Each string of panels passes through the DCDB before it reaches the inverter. The fuse protects the string cable from fault current, and the DC surge protection device sends surges from lightning or switching to earth, protecting the panels and the inverter. The box also gives the string cables a tidy, protected meeting point.

Ours come pre-wired in a plastic enclosure.

Choosing a solar DCDB box

Choose the DCDB by the number of strings in and out (for example 1 in 1 out, or 2 in 2 out), the maximum string voltage and the string current. Protection on the DC side must be rated for DC at the system's voltage; AC-rated parts are not a substitute.

We keep all types, from 32 A to 300 A: tell us the inverter model and the string layout, and we will suggest the box.

Ordering

DCDB boxes are packed by the carton; see the table above for the pack size and minimum order. Send the ratings and quantities on WhatsApp for a same-day rate, with MC4 connectors and DC wire if you need them.

Frequently asked questions

What does “2 in 2 out” mean on a DCDB?

It is the number of strings in and out: a 2 in 2 out box takes two panel strings and feeds two inverter inputs, each with its own protection. The inverter's number of inputs and your string layout decide what you need.

Why does a DCDB use DC fuses instead of an AC MCB?

Direct current doesn't pass through zero the way AC does, so an arc is much harder to break. Protection on the DC side must be rated for DC at the system's voltage, which is why DCDBs use DC fuses and DC surge protection.
